#GivingTuesday Empty Plate Stories: Meet Jamie

Posted on November 24, 2017

Right before Thanksgiving, Jamie's husband got laid off from work.

With no income, five hungry mouths to feed, and bills piling up, her family quickly exhausted the little they had saved up. Her biggest concern was for her three children.

“It’s hard for me to see my kids make sacrifices – really hard.” Jamie broke down and cried often, usually after the kids went to sleep. Then, they found Metropolitan Ministries! Jamie and her family were able to get a shopping basket of food for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner – a turkey all the fixings included!

“This means a lot to me and my family,” she said, the tears welling up in her eyes. “It’s good that there are places like this when families need help.”

Thanks to donors like you, we can ensure that families like Jamie's don't go hungry during the holidays and all year long.

For most people, the holidays are a time of joyful giving, receiving and celebrating. But for many families who are homeless or experiencing hardships, it is filled with worry and fear about how they will put food on the table.

This #GivingTuesday you can help twice as many families, like Jamie's, with our Matching Grant – your gift will be matched up to $50K.
