Hope After Irma Stories - Chris

Posted on September 18, 2017

We met with Chris at Pasco Outreach Center the weekend after Hurricane Irma. Here is his story.

Chris had a worried look on his face. He looked a little weary when he walked through the door of our outreach center. He was grateful when he felt the cool air inside. While he walked around choosing food for his family of eight, he explained that sure it's been rough without electricity for a week, but what he's really scared about is being able to provide for his family.

You see, Hurricane Irma did a whole lot more than blow out a window and knock down trees at his home. Chris hasn't had work in a week because his company has been shut down since the storm hit.

For Chris, life is paycheck to paycheck. If he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid. And that means no food to eat. None.

But thanks to a generous and caring community who donated and the help of Pasco County, Florida, Government, Chris got enough food for three days. He also got cleaning supplies, toothpaste, and toilet paper.

Seems simple. But Chris left with a sense of relief. He told us that more than the items he received, he really appreciated being able to talk someone about how he was feeling. Chris thinks his company will open up again in a few days, and things will be OK. He had a simple message for all who made this help possible.

"Thank you. I don't know what I would have done without you."
