Holiday Drive Ideas
Build-a Box/Build-a-Bag
Each person gives a completed Box of Hope (food for a family of 4 for 3 days) or Bag of Joy (two toys and a stuffed stocking for one child) to the Holiday Center. We would like to see this become a “grassroots effort” as drive participants ask their own friends, co-workers and family members for specific items our families need. With this in mind, we will provide a “sponsorship sheet” which can be downloaded at www.metromin.org.
The One Item Drive
Your group could choose to sponsor a whole day of distribution to 1,000 families by collecting one of our most needed foods - canned fruit, boxed cereal, stuffing or rice/pasta. Simply select ONE item from this list for your drive and challenge your team to collect 1,000 of that item. It’s easy and helps serve so many!
Infant/Teen Toy Drive
Give to our area of greatest need during December- teen gifts or infant gifts. Encourage teenagers or parents of toddlers to collect the items that kids most want for Christmas.
Neighborhood Canvass
Drop a list of needed food or toy items to a group of homes and return on a set date to pick up their donations. Try including a bag with the list of items. Most grocery stores will donate the bags, and it makes it easier to collect when you return.
Contest
Make the drive a contest between groups within your organization and give prizes that build community for your team.
Community Challenge
Ask other community groups such as businesses, faith groups, or schools to join you in collect food and toys at their location.
Can Sculpture
Be creative by collecting enough canned goods to make a sculpture in your building. You could build your team mascot, company logo, or something fun like a space ship!
