Metropolitan Ministries has a NEW Holiday Tent Location
A NEW LOCATION FOR METROPOLITAN MINISTRIES HOLIDAY TENT
Tampa Housing Authority donates land for iconic holiday symbol
October 19, 2016 (Tampa, Fla.) – One of the iconic symbols of the holiday season in Tampa Bay – the Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent – is kicking off the season of giving with the help of the Tampa Housing Authority. Located
in downtown Tampa’s Tempo District just west of the Nebraska Avenue and Cass Street intersection, a portion of the affordable housing property known as ENCORE!® has been temporarily donated by the Tampa Housing Authority to Metropolitan Ministries for the 2016 Holiday Tent. A new location was needed this year as the new Heights project at the north end of Tampa’s downtown Riverwalk is underway.
“We are enormously grateful to the Tampa Housing Authority for this partnership. If there was ever a year for the Tampa Bay community to come together, this would be the year”, Metropolitan Ministries President/CEO Tim Marks said. “At a time when our nation and local communities are divided, they are leading the way for Tampa Bay to unite while helping those in need.”
“Creating partnership opportunities to serve the needs of our collective community is what we do best”, said Jerome Ryans, President/CEO of the Tampa Housing Authority. “This extraordinary partnership creates a win-win situation for us all. We are glad to lend a hand for this tremendous opportunity that unites the collective community and assists in meeting the needs of those less fortunate.”
Metropolitan Ministries is a grassroots, donor and volunteer-fueled community nonprofit. Without supporters and partners, their mission could not be accomplished. Several additional partners have stepped up by donating their professional skills and services to help make the tent (which is nearly the size of a football field) possible, including: City of Tampa, JVS Contracting, Falcon Electric, Stantec, Lafayette Tents, Tampa Bay Steel, Henriquez Electric, and Sunbelt Rentals.
The new location has already sparked the interest of many ENCORE!® residents. Some are registering for holiday assistance across the street at registration partner site St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, while others are signing up to volunteer.
More than 18,000 families are expected to seek help at the Holiday Tent this year, with more than 100,000 people overall (volunteers, donors and those seeking help) expected to visit the tent. As many as 10,000 volunteers are needed. Those interested in helping should sign up now at www.metromin.org/holiday-central-/volunteer-opportunities.
