FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I join MyV?
If you are in high school and volunteer with us then you are automatically part of MyV! There is no formal application process.
What happens to my hours if I’m in high school and have already volunteered at Metropolitan Ministries?
If you have previously volunteered at Metropolitan Ministries since you’ve been in high school, just let us know. We’ll credit you with those hours and start you at the corresponding level.
How do I start volunteering?
Check out our How to Get Started page. To start volunteering at Metropolitan Ministries, you must attend an orientation. Orientations are offered weekly. Please check our volunteer event calendar for dates and times.
What is the dress code when I’m volunteering?
Modesty is the best policy! Flip-flops, and short-shorts or skirts are NOT permitted. Closed-toed shoes and a shirt with sleeves are required. Long pants are highly recommended and are also required for many volunteer opportunities.
What about court-mandated hours?
We will consider court-mandated hours on a case-by-case basis for those under 18. However, the offense must be non-violent in nature. If accepted, these hours will count toward the MyV levels.
How do I keep track of my own hours?
First, please make sure to sign in when you volunteer. As part of MyV, you will also be required to keep track of your own hours on a MyV Level Tracker that you are responsible for.
I’ve completed a level. Now what?
Whenever you complete a Level, please contact us at 813.209.1067 so we can verify your MyV Level Tracker and any other requirements necessary for that Level. We are NOT responsible for informing you if you’ve reached a new Level. It is your responsibility to let us know that you’ve met all the requirements of that Level. This is one reason why it’s important that you sign in and out and keep a log of your volunteer hours and other requirements.
What if I’m coming with a group?
If you are coming as a part of a group, be sure to keep track of those hours on your MyV Level Tracker as well as your individual hours.
How do I check my current logged hours?
Students will be responsible for keeping track of their own hours using the MyV Level Tracker. However, we will keep your most recently turned-in timesheet on file and can check your hours in our database.
Will these hours count for the Bright Futures Scholarship or other scholarships?
All hours that are volunteered with Metropolitan Ministries meet the qualifications for Bright Futures and other scholarships requiring community service hours.
