Serving poor and homeless families
in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk

volunteers kitchenKitchen

Designed by Outback Steakhouse, we prepare 2,200 meals daily for our residents and 26 partner meal sites in Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties!  In the kitchen, you could find yourself doing meal preparation (e.g., cutting potatoes, washing chickens, or opening up hundreds of cans of mandarin oranges by hand), serving our residents in our dining facility, stocking shelves, washing dishes, mopping, or emptying the trash. Besides the kitchen dress code of long pants, closed-toe shoes and a shirt with sleeves, you’ll be given your very own fashionable hair net to use while you’re working.  Best of all, it’s yours to keep and use over and over again at home, around the barbecue, or just during that special night out. Available for individuals and groups of 6-8 volunteers. Minimum age requirement is 12 years old with supervision, 14 years old without supervision.  Hours – Daily from 5:30am-6:30pm.

Typically over 100 families visit Outreach daily, but the numbers vary depending on the day, time, and weather. Usually the first stop at Metropolitan Ministries for our clients, here you can bring hope directly to the local community by helping clients shop for food in our Metro Market or clothing in our Metro Outfitters, assisting with resumes in the Employment Lab, or handing out snacks. This is the ideal place for nursing students, volunteers interested in social services and anyone with a compassionate heart and a listening ear. Available for individuals and groups of 5-10 volunteers. Minimum age requirement is 12 years old with supervision, 14 years old without supervision.  Hours – Mon, Wed-Fri from 9:00am-5:00pm; Tues from 9:00am-7:30pm.

Warehouse VolunteersThrift Store and Warehouses

Throughout the year and especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, the surrounding community generously gives an abundance of food, clothing, toys, and other assorted goods. To be good stewards of what’s been entrusted to us; we need your help in our Food Warehouse sorting canned goods, in our Clothing Warehouse sorting through clothing and hygiene donations and serving customers in our Thrift Store. Available for individuals and groups of 5-10 volunteers. Minimum age is 8 years old with adult supervision, 14 years old without supervision. Hours – Mon-Sat from 8:00am-4:00pm.

PromiseLand DaycarePromiseLand

Did you know at any given time we typically have 8 infants living on our campus? We also have daycare for our other little ones and a Head Start program. While their parents are working, completing school, or going through one of our resident programs, volunteers are needed to play and read to the children, rock babies, or simply be a helping hand to our staff. These opportunities are limited and usually require a background check. Available for individuals and groups of 5-6 volunteers. Minimum volunteer age is 16 years old unless noted otherwise.  Hours– Mon-Fri from 8:00am-4:30pm.

Christmas Volunteer TentSeasonal Opportunities

We have several events during the year, including Bridge Builder's and LEON, but our trademark event is the Holiday Tent.  Up from October through December, this opportunity may take up to 800 volunteers a day to operate efficiently!  Individuals and groups may find themselves registering clients, sorting donations, stocking our market, assisting clients with their shopping, playing with children, cleaning, leading a prayer time, or even performing on our stage.  A separate shift schedule will be posted, so be sure to include this in your annual volunteer planning. Available for individuals and groups of all sizes.

Did you ever wonder who cleans our campus? Volunteers do! This may not be your first choice, but without volunteers, the safety, cleanliness, and beauty of our facilities would quickly deteriorate. Available for individuals and groups of 6-8 volunteers. Minimum age requirement is 12 years old with supervision, 14 years old without supervision. Hours – Mon-Fri from 8:00am-3:30pm.

Children's ProgramChildren's Programs

We sometimes need volunteers to host special children’s programs like monthly birthday parties, holiday celebrations, Sunday Fun Days, and puppet shows to name a few. You provide the creativity and we'll provide the crowd. (School year only; times subject to change.) Available for individuals and groups of 4-6 volunteers.
