You Helped Amanda Reclaim Her Life
From addiction, abuse, and fear to a career, a safe home, and a future
Amanda thought she was going to die in that dark place — a pit of abuse, addiction, and fear.
“I’d been in a severe opiate addiction and abusive relationship that I stayed in for nearly four years,” says Amanda. “I was afraid of leaving.”
She’d given up all hope of escaping. “I couldn’t see myself getting out,” says Amanda. Until she became pregnant with her daughter. “She gave me the strength to leave the relationship.”
Because you provide real exits out of poverty, Amanda found so much more than temporary shelter. She stepped into a stable, dignified future far different from the abuse and fear she’d survived.
Hope Taking Root
When stepping onto Metro’s campus with her little girl, Amanda felt the uncertainty of change. But she quickly realized this place was exactly where she needed to be. “They really make you feel like you’re home,” she says.
Beyond safe housing and healthy meals, you gave Amanda the chance to thrive in Tampa Bay’s workforce. Through a local partnership, she received technical training and was able to interview with companies in the area. “It really provides you with a lot of hands-on experience in the manufacturing world,” says Amanda. “I was blessed to have all five companies I interviewed with want to meet with me again.”

Today, Amanda is coming up on two and a half years of sobriety, which she is so proud of herself for. She’s saving money and searching for an
apartment with Metro’s support, looking for options that are close to her daughter’s daycare. She can’t believe how different her life is today.
