Volunteer

In these trying times, the need is growing in Tampa Bay. We have immediate opportunities for passionate volunteers to help ensure that families can find help when they need it most. Are you ready to help?

Get Involved
The scope of the need is unprecedented. We’ve been so fortunate to have the communities’ support, and I have faith that we’ll rally together once again to meet this challenge.Tim Marks, Metropolitan Ministries’ president & CEO

Volunteer Opportunities

Whether it is assembling food boxes at our warehouse, preparing lunch for 3,000, or helping build our iconic Holiday Tent, you can find volunteering opportunities you will love here at Metro. Some volunteer tasks are not available at this time.

Kitchen

Designed by Outback Steakhouse, we prepare 3,000 meals daily for our residents and 26 partner meal sites in Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties! In the kitchen, you could find yourself doing meal preparation, serving our residents in our dining facility, stocking shelves, washing dishes, mopping, or emptying the trash. Besides the kitchen dress code of long pants, closed-toe shoes, and a shirt with sleeves, you’ll be given your very own fashionable hair net to use while you’re working.

Outreach

We are serving thousands of families each week alongside our Outreach team distributing food boxes and hygiene products to those in need. There are several volunteer tasks including assisting clients in the Metro Market, taking Boxes of Hope to cars, and helping process our clients’ needs. This team requires sensitivity to those in poverty and great people skills!

Bloom Again Thrift Store & Warehouse

The majority of food, clothing, and items we give out to families comes from community donations. To help us be good stewards of what’s been entrusted to us; we need your help in our Food Warehouse sorting canned goods, in our Clothing Warehouse sorting through clothing and hygiene donations, and serving customers in our Thrift Store. All revenue from the Thrift Store goes right back into providing for our programs.

Environmental Services

Did you ever wonder who cleans our campus? Volunteers do! This may not be your first choice, but without volunteers, the safety, cleanliness, and beauty of our facilities would quickly deteriorate. This team is instrumental in providing dignity to the families we serve and making Metropolitan Ministries a safe place.

Residential Services

We have over 100 families staying with us between our 2 campuses relying on you for HOPE. Join the community life team in keeping our families safe by stocking supplies, keeping common areas clean, and providing temperature checks for those visiting.

Seasonal Opportunities

We have special events during the year all throughout the Tampa Bay Area from collections donations, to distributing food but most of all we are known for our trademark Holiday Tent. Up from October through December, this opportunity may take up to 600 volunteers a day to operate efficiently! Individuals and groups may find themselves registering clients, sorting donations, stocking our market, assisting clients with their shopping, slinging frozen turkey, cleaning, or leading a prayer time. Be sure to check under Community Events in your county for these opportunities and make the Holiday Tent part of your annual volunteer planning. Group size, age, and time vary see event details for specifics.
