It starts with a meal . . . but it ends with lasting stability

These aren’t people you’d recognize as “homeless.”

They don’t look the way the world makes you picture. They just look like neighbors. Because they are.

A man living out of a suitcase. A senior sitting on a church bench charging their phone. The family at the grocery store that’s one paycheck away from losing their home – and no one knows.

They’re all around us in Tampa Bay. And this Thanksgiving, they’ll all sit at a table because of you.
Dennis, a local pastor, has seen the impact of your generosity firsthand.

A MEAL IS NEVER JUST A MEAL . . .

Through a partnership with Metro, Pastor Dennis’ church hosts meals every Tuesday and Thursday. Some nights, 50 to 60 people walk through the door.

A hot meal is no small thing. When asking for help takes so much courage, a dignifying, warm welcome shows a neighbor they’re not alone. “Whether they’re down on their luck, need a hot meal, or just want fellowship, they can come in and sit down,” says Dennis. “There are so many people who are alienated, and this gives them an opportunity to feel like they have value.”

Thanks to you, everyone has a place at Metro’s table – no matter what they’ve endured.
The table is where families rise out of poverty and find hope. “I think of it as the great banquet
table that Christ is preparing for us in heaven,” says Pastor Dennis. “One day, we’re all going to sit at that banquet table.”

Your generosity is giving people a place to rest, belong, and take the first step out of poverty – even people you might not believe are experiencing homelessness. “We’re seeing people who
have families. And then you have seniors coming in who may not even have a place to eat, not even have a place to sleep,” says Dennis. “So often, the seniors are pushed to the side or they’re housed in nursing homes and disconnected from community.”

Tampa Bay doesn’t just need hot meals. It needs real pathways out of poverty. That’s why what starts with a Metro meal grows into a safe home, a career, and a future – all thanks to you.

“This is a great opportunity to minister to folks that feel disconnected from everything,” says Pastor Dennis. “Maybe they live in the woods or in a hotel. But they come, and we make them feel special.”
