Hope starts with a meal

Because of your caring support, Shelli says, “I know I can get back on my feet.”

Shelli and her kids went from being evicted to the first steps toward a fresh start here at Metropolitan Ministries in our short term self-sufficiency program— thanks to you, our faithful partners.

This hardworking mom had to make the tough choice to quit a job because the boss was harassing her and her family. Thankfully, they ended up here.

“They’re helping me tremendously,” says Shelli. She’s thankful for a safe place to live, nourishing meals three times a day and more.

“They gave me counseling,” she adds, and “they do activities with my kids, and have after school programs . . . The whole place is wonderful! Everything about this place is wonderful.”

This Thanksgiving, families like Shelli’s will sit down to our traditional dinner with all of the fixings — from turkey and mashed potatoes to cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

Like Shelli, these moms and dads are working hard to start a new life.

Your support to provide meals and so much more makes fresh starts possible! And what better time for a fresh start than at Thanksgiving!

“I’m here, and I thank God,” Shelli says. “I ask God to help me be stronger . . . Give me the strength to support others.”

And she says, “My kids encourage me, they say, ‘tell me jokes, read a book.’ They are my strength. They keep me moving.”

Whether it’s Thanksgiving meals for those here in our program at Hope Hall and UPLIFT U®, or holiday meals delivered to our partner sites to reach more people throughout our community. It could also be Thanksgiving meal fixings in one of our Box of Hope food boxes.

There are so many ways you make a difference!
