SabalPlace offers expecting mom a safe, fresh start.

For expecting mom, Mia, the last straw was her kids witnessing the abuse she endured by her partner. With the violence growing more intense by the day, she knew she had to leave to keep her and her kids safe.  “I just didn’t feel comfortable being home with him. My ex was not the father of my two other kids, so I don’t know the personal things he would have done to them if I would have stayed in that relationship,” she said. “I just decided to get out.”

Mia packed up her two sons and never looked back in the middle of COVID-19. Officially homeless but out of the cycle of abuse, she found herself at Metropolitan Ministries’ doors.

Mia and her children were given a safe place to live while healing from the trauma of domestic violence and abuse. “Metro was the best option,” she shared. “You guys have been honestly great towards my family and me and making me feel safe and protected.” In the program, Mia settled in, receiving support from her case managers as she worked towards her goal of self-sufficiency, which included going back to school and getting back on her feet financially. She enrolled in school and started a savings account but had one more goal in mind — securing an apartment for her and her children.

That’s when she learned about SabalPlace, Metro’s new affordable housing community that features 112 brand new units with access to wraparound care for homeless and at-risk families like Mia’s.

“With the help of a staff member, I filled out the application and later on, I was approved,” said Mia. “I’m really grateful that I can restart with my kids and make sure that they are secure.”

Thanks to your support, Mia and her family are one of 112 families who will call SabalPlace home just in time to welcome her newborn. “I live for my kids,” she shared. “I give it to Metro for helping me so much for what they have done for my kids and me and my new baby.”

Like Mia, many of our moms are transitioning from homelessness into SabalPlace, yet, they do not have the basic household essentials for everyday living. There are many essential items needed like mattresses, seating, kitchen tools, lighting and even baby furniture.

With you to thank for transforming her life through SabalPlace, Mia shared this “You’re saving lives and saving families. You’ve helped this community, and I, along with my family, just say thank you so much
