Leadership

Metropolitan Ministries is led by a smart and diverse team. The leadership team is supported by a volunteer board of directors. Their combined passion and experience drive our desire to accomplish big things in the fight against homelessness and poverty in the Tampa Metro Area.
Tim Marks
President & Chief Executive Officer

Tim Marks came to Metropolitan Ministries in 2006 after serving as the Executive Director of Community Relations for the Boston Rescue Mission.

Prior to serving at the rescue mission, Tim worked in the corporate world for more than 21 years as an engineer, account executive and sales director.  As a sales director of a Fortune 50 company, Tim led a nationwide organization responsible for an annual revenue stream of over $90M.

Today, Tim is committed to Metropolitan Ministries Mission to alleviate suffering, promote dignity and instill self-sufficiency for homeless and at-risk families.  The Ministries Vision of being America’s most effective caregiver to poor and homeless people is the driving force in his pursuit of excellence, superior results and lasting impact for the families we serve.

Tim’s commitment to collaborative partnerships has led to multiple non-profit and public agency partnerships, greater volunteer engagements, stronger donor-centric initiatives, and greater outcomes for the families we serve.  Today, Metropolitan Ministries serves five times as many families through program growth, with 140 families living on three campuses and over 20,000 households being served through Outreach & Prevention Services each year.

Tim earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Oakland University in Rochester, MI, a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from the University of Tampa, and a Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management Certificate from Harvard Business School Executive Education. Tim and his wife Valeri reside in south Tampa.  They have three adult children.

“I believe in the work of Metropolitan Ministries because I have personally witnessed the life-changing programs and compassionate staff bring hope to traumatized children, mothers, and families from every walk of life. I believe in life change. I believe God has blessed this ministry with so many faithful donors, caring volunteers, compassionate collaborative partners, and called staff members all working together to bring hope and healing to individuals who have nowhere else to turn. We are here for the critical times in an individual’s life and we stand in the gap to alleviate their suffering and lead them to becoming self-sufficient.”
Rev. Morris E. Hintzmann, D.D.
President, Metropolitan Ministries Foundation

Morris has been leading and growing Metropolitan Ministries since 1982 and still plays a key role in our community and work. His passion is to provide answers for the poor and homeless in Tampa, Florida. He’s a respected authority on poverty and social services, with both earned and honorary doctorates, and shares his experience and knowledge on councils, boards and at committees to make a difference in our state.

“Every day I see God transform and restore those who are served and all who serve . . . Metropolitan Ministries is truly a miracle place where hope lives.”
Christine Long
Chief Programs Officer

Since 1993, Christine has been involved in our client care. In addition to leading our team of counselors and program directors, Christine serves on numerous committees and boards addressing concerns for homeless and hunger issues in our state and community. Christine has a master’s degree in mental health counseling.

“Because of this generous community, we can respond quickly to needs and give families and children the opportunity to find hope as they struggle with homelessness. As each family moves to a strong self-sufficient life, I am filled with pride and joy that we have been able to make a difference — changing their lives forever!”
Amy Kern
Chief Financial Officer

With fourteen years of corporate accounting experience including publicly traded companies and non-profit organizations, Amy has pioneered a legacy as a female professional and as a single mother. Earning a Master of Business Administration in Global Management and a Master of Arts in Accounting, Amy has faced and overcome many of the same obstacles faced by clients of Metropolitan Ministries. Following her heart, Amy has pursued a career largely focused on non-profit organizations, now culminating with Metropolitan Ministries. Her information technology and data management skills facilitated her earning Microsoft certification as a Certified Solutions Associate, which is evidenced by her ability to transform raw data into meaningful metrics to facilitate educated decision making. Amy’s dedication, ambition, and heart to serve have positioned her to consistently improve accounting systems. Her non-profit finance experience has resulted in positive changes to processes, procedures, efficiency, accuracy, transparency, and clean audits. Amy is committed to utilizing her God-given talents supporting organizations that reach the least, the last, and the lost.

“It is truly an honor to serve with the Committed and Called people we refer to as our team at Metropolitan Ministries. My personal mission statement in life is ‘It’s not how you begin, but how you finish that matters.’ Metropolitan Ministries illustrates that concept both through statement and through outcomes.”
